Silver Star Medal Award
Major Aloysius Paul Mc Gonigal was awarded the Silver Star Medal for his conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action. He served as a U.S. Army Chaplain but attached himself to the U.S. Marine units fighting to retake Hue during the 1968 Tet Offensive. He died from wounds received while he was administering last rites and comforting the wounded.
