Grateful that he is remembered
I’m probably the youngest one commenting here, and I’m 69.
I was 10 years old whim my cousin Jim was killed in Vietnam. He had been there less than a month. I’ve always marked his death as the end of my childhood. He was, like Marguerite said, our favorite cousin. He was very funny, and that Donald Duck voice delighted us younger cousins. What Carolyn said about him saying he didn’t think he was coming back…I always felt that too, although at his goodbye party, he kept showing off his muscles. I remember turning around in the back seat of our car, looking at the back window and waving goodbye to him, for as long as I could see him.
In 2016, on the 50th anniversary's of his death, a deacon friend of ours, who was also a military chaplain, went with us to his grave and we had a little ceremony. I left a bouquet with a little Donald Duck. My husband, although he never knew Jim, stood beside me. I wish showing the picture of that day was allowed! It is his grave!

A Neighbor, Classmate and Friend
We were friends and classmates at West Seattle High and lived across the street during our grade school years. I remember Jim very fondly and looked up to him as a person and young man. As a fellow veteran, I thank him and his family for his service and the ultimate sacrifice he made to help keep this Country free. RIP dear friend.

God Bless and thank you.
I came across Jim's grave as I walked to a friend's grave and I noticed he was buried next to another soldier who also died in Vietnam. I wondered what other connection they had besides Vietnam. John Feser in his previous remembrance gave me the answer, they were classmates at Holy Rosary. The other soldier was John Nokes. Very moving for me.
