I was stationed on FOB Kalsu on my last Deployment to Iraq 2011

In 2011, I was assigned as a Combat Engineer with the 1stSpecial Troops Bn of the !st Calvery Division. Our Mission was Route clearance and improvement of the Infastructure of the Roads and area's in Iraq. We were assigned to work out of FOB Kalsu. I had never Heard the Story of Bob Kalsu till I got to the FOB, but On the main sign of the Base was his story. It was truly Inspiring how, before Pat Tillman, Bob Kalsu had given up an NFL career inorder to serve his country. I wanted to provide the memorial photo's of the base that had his name. The base was closed up in 2011, but his memory will always live on.

Lt. Kalsu

He was the best LT. I ever knew. He was always doing the work that we would do. I remember him carrying 2 155 rds, one on each shoulder, up from the helipad to the gun crews. He always acted like one of the guys. Always smiling. I was the medic for the 2/11 Arty, 101 st. Ripcord took a lot of guys, but when he got killed it hit all of us big time. Will never forget him, he was a true hero and friend!
