Always an Eagle
Robert Kalsu was our friend. He attended Del City Highschool with us and was an exemplary student and a talented athlete. The Del City Eagles football teams were enhanced for three years by his performance on the field, and the stadium today bears his name. We attended the University of Oklahoma with Robert, who had a football scholarship there. After we earned our degrees, Robert Kalsu went on to play professional football, taking time out for the Army and a tour of duty in Vietnam.
We were so saddened by the loss of Robert, but we were not surprised to learn that he gave his life honorably, just as he had lived his life with honor. Robert was fun and mischievous, but the word that comes to mind when we remember him is "gentleman." He was a gentleman in all the nuances of the word; he was a big man, as befit his occupation, but always kind and gentle. And he left us a wonderful legacy; at a recent Del City Eagles Highschool class reunion, we had the pleasure of meeting his handsome son, now a teacher.
We have been to the Wall, we have touched Robert Kalsu's name there, and we remember our friend with infinite respect and affection.
