My Snohomish Hero
Bruce and I served together in C Company, 8th Engineer Battalion, 1st Air Cavalry Division near LZ Evans, north of Hue from January - September, 1968. I was company commander and Bruce was my RTO (radio telephone operator). We spent each day together. We were late returning from the field on September 8. The cooks kept a late supper for us, which we ate together when we got back about 6:30 PM, just the two of us. Bruce walked a few yards to the headquarters tent to tell those waiting for our evening meeting I would be right there. Then the rocket hit the tent. Bruce loved his family, his home and looked forward to returning to Snohomish when his duty was done. He was a great man, whose life was cut short by forces we did not understand. I am proud to have served with Bruce Christian - the ultimate boy scout.
