I served as a medic in the USAF at Vandenberg, Ca. during your time in Vietnam. From a fellow veteran who served safely stateside, thank you for your service and accept my belated gratitude for your "...last measure of devotion."

CPT Chaney left this world on 23 SEP 1969 as a Special Forces MACV-SOG member. I entered this world on 23 SEP 1969, and I am a retired Special Forces Major. Call it what you like, but I believe we are connected. Thank you for all that you did for our great nation. De Oppresso Liber

Captain Stephen John Chaney died as a result of shrapnel wounds received from an errant rocket fired from U.S. helicopter gunships during a reconnaissance patrol when his team encountered communist forces and he radioed for air strikes. CPT Chaney requested the Forward Air Controller call for extraction. During the recovery of his team, CPT Chaney died before he could be medevaced to a U.S. hospital.
