Final Mission of CAPT John B. Causey

The U.S. Air Force Douglas RB-66C Destroyer was a specialized electronic reconnaissance and electronic countermeasures (ECM) aircraft. Unarmed RB-66C planes flew numerous missions during the Vietnam War. They helped gather electronic intelligence about North Vietnamese defenses, and provided protection on bombing missions of Air Force F-105 Thunderchiefs by jamming North Vietnamese radar systems. On February 25, 1966, an RB-66C Destroyer (#54-0457) from the 41st Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, 355th Tactical Fighter Wing, carrying six crew members, took off on a combat mission over Vinh, North Vietnam. During the operation, an enemy surface-to-air missile damaged the aircraft. The Destroyer headed out to sea and a mayday call was initiated. The crew was forced to eject over the Gulf of Tonkin. Search and rescue efforts were made, and five survivors were rescued; however, one crew member, CAPT John B. Causey, the Electronic Warfare Supervisor, could not be located. He was reported Missing in Action, then listed as presumed dead, body not recoverable. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and pownetwork.org]
