Final Mission of FN Michael A. Burns

On April 30, 1968, a U.S. Navy utility landing craft LCU-1477 was transiting the Cua Viet River, three miles north of Dong Ha Airfield in Quang Tri Province, RVN, when it was attacked and struck on its port (left) side of the gun mount by either a rocket-propelled grenade or a round from a recoilless rifle. Three U.S. sailors aboard LCU-1477 were fatally injured in the assault: FN Michael A. Burns, RM3 Dale L. Kruse, and SN Larry J. Leindecker. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]
