Ground Casualty
On September 8, 1969, a South Vietnamese soldier shot to death two American field grade officers in an Army compound southwest of Saigon, RVN. The victims were senior U.S. Army advisors LTC Eugene F. Smallwood and MAJ Anthony J. Broullon. The officers were shot as they walked out of the compound of the Army of Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) 4th Regiment near Tan An. The shooter, a South Vietnamese enlisted man, was serving as a guard at the compound. He also reportedly shot at the ARVN 4th Regiment commander before taking his own life.
