NEVER FORGOTTEN
I knew Mike when he lived in Coolidge, AZ and attended high school. He was smart, attractive, sweet natured, etc. and the biggest basketball fiend I've ever known. I'm sure I and most every girl had a crush on him. I miss him dearly, and cherish the picture you posted which I will make sure is shared on our school's websites. He was so special and I'm sorry we lost him so soon because he had so much promise and so much to give. Mike, much love to you, Anne Kimbrell.

My Dad was Your Friend and Still Is
My name is Michael Lee Ritzel and I was named in honor of Michael Lee Zappia. My Dad was there that night of 25 Feb 69 and has spoken of him my entire life. My Dad still hurts deeply with the loss of a fine person. I hope one day soon that my Dad can heal.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear PFC Michael Lee Zappia, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

Remembering Mike
I remember Mike from High School in Coolidge, AZ. We didn't know each other well and shared a photo together in our high school annual as "Best Looking". I had my brother take a picture yesterday when he was at the memorial. It reminded me how grateful I am of his and so many...too many others that sacrificed their lives for us. Saddened his life was cut short but grateful nonetheless.
