Boy to Man
Johnnie was the grandson of Ella Wall, our neighbor on Walker Road, Mountain Home, Arkansas. As a boy, he would visit his grandma from Iowa, and although I was three or four years older, we would play together. Neither of us Iowa boys imagined a future where he would give his life for his country.
On October 4, 1997, while attending the Promise Keepers gathering on the Mall in Washington, I was able to visit the Wall and find Johnnie's name. I honor John and his comrades who served our country to the ultimate extent.
