35 Years Ago Today

It was 35 years ago today that you were taken from us. I think of you often and on this day would like those visiting your site to know of your heroism. On 21 April 67, in the village of Phu Loc, a combined action platoon consisting of U.S. Marines and Vietnamese army forces became engaged with a Viet Cong force. Your team joined a reaction force to aid the combined action platoon. Your team met intense automatic weapons fire and your Captain was seriously wounded. Without hesitation, you moved to his side to aid and protect him. It was at that time you were mortally wounded. Both Fritz I thank God that we had the opportunity to know you no matter how brief. We love you and continue to miss you. Until we meet again. Semper Fi!

Never Forgotten

Met in radio school in San Diego and with our friend Reggie formed an unbreakable friendship. Shipped out together to Viet Nam and was with you when you were hit, covering the body of a fallen comrade.

Attended the football stadium dedication to you in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and also the re-dedication with Reggie.

Still carry your picture in my wallet, the one we had taken in the Phillipines at Subic Bay. Been a long time, but you're fresh in my mind.

Until we meet again ......

Semper Fi

My Brother Forever

Met John while on mess duty prior to the start of Radio School (MCRD San Diego). I have never met a more open, honest and genuine guy. Was in Danang when informed of his death. For those that knew John...the Marine, and more importantly the man...you know what a loss that was. Attended the re-dedication of the football field named in John's honor at his High School in Cedar Rapids with Fritz Johnson (another very close friend and 2533). John was the inspiration for all that I am today. Semper Fi my Brother.
