Gone but not forgotten
David (Joe) and I enlisted in the Navy at the same time as part of an All State Company in February of 1965. Our entire company (80) were from Nebraska but Joe and I were the only ones from Lincoln. We were together for the first eight weeks until I was hospitalized with an infection and lost my company. Unfortunately I lost track of Joe as well, as I followed him to Corps School some weeks later, not realizing he was there at the same time.
I don't remember when I heard of his death, but felt the loss of a fellow corpsman, friend and hero.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear HN David Joseph Branstrom, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
