Ground Casualty

I Field Force was a U.S. Army Republic of Vietnam corps-level command whose area of responsibility was Military Region II comprising the twelve provinces of Vietnam's Central Highlands. The command controlled a number of divisions and brigades of combat units and artillery groups. PFC Paul D. Brannon was an I Field Force M42 40mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun “Duster" crewman serving with C Battery, 4th Battalion, 60th Artillery. On the evening of April 28, 1970, Brannon was at LZ Tape where he became ill, complaining of stomach pains and coughing up blood. He was evacuated to the 173rd Brigade medical hospital at LZ English where he was treated for a variety of issues related to liver failure. Despite the best efforts of medical staff at managing his illness, he expired the following day. Brannon was 22 years old. [Sourced at coffeltdatabase.org]

My Brother Warrior

I served with Paul in Vietnam, he was always the one with the jokes. He was a good soldier and a good soul.
When I left on April 4, 1970 he wrote down his name number, and address, and asked me if I would call his mother when I got back to the states and let her know he was fine. I did. She was ecstatic. Three weeks later I heard he was killed. I will always remember you Paul, you are a good brother.
