Dear PFC Joseph Timpa, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry. Your 79th birthday just passed, happy birthday. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Today is the 58th anniversary of the 2nd Gulf of Tonkin Incident. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it still needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

My family, the Rabsons, lived next door to your family on Richmond Street in Brooklyn in the 1950s. We often all went to the beach together; you took accordion lessons with my sister. We all went to PS 65 across the street. When our family heard that you were killed in the war, we felt so terrible. Rest in peace, Joey.

We lost you before you really began life. We named our first son after you and are proud of the man you were and how you served your country. We treasure the last letter you wrote. We've told our children and grand-children, especially your namesake about you. You are remembered with love and pride.
