Many years but not forgotten

I was about three years younger than Richie and viewed him as one of the cool older teens at church. I remember the day the tragic news arrived and the grief on my parents face. I remember, at church, the great sorrow in the congregation. I remember his father's grief stricken face. It was the first time I could sense that something genuinely tragic had taken place and I struggled to suppress tears. I remember the Bowman family integrity.

Every Memorial Day my mind turns to Richie and his family and I remember. When ever a conversation turns to this day I share his memory. The times I took my scout troop to DC I would always visit the memorial and point out his name and share his memory and sacrifice. He is not forgotten. Thank you Richie. Thank you Bowman's.

Always Remembered, Never Forgotten?

Dear Richie,

Another Memorial Day has passed, I can't explain why this one has been so hard. Each day is Memorial Day for me, your portrait is the first I see in the morning and the last I see before retiring for the night. It's uncanny, seeing this portrait brings me peace and sadness almost symultainiously.
September quickly approaches where I'll be with Your Band of Brothers in Georgia. I become anxious and happy being with your brothers! They bring so much to the table, healing for me and them. Each time we're together, I learn something new about you and your days before you died. I treasure this time, at the same time it takes days if not weeks to sort through my feelings laced with love for these brave men I know call brother. They will Never forget you this I can promise nor will I!
I love you Richie, your sacrifice still and always will remain huge for me. My life as I once knew it changed in the blink of an eye when we were told you had been killed! You'll always be my Hero as a Patriot and my brother??????
Not one baby sister could ever need more from a big brother than what you gave to me.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace
Duty nobly done

Love always,

Kathy
