A Leader Who Led by Example
I was in the four-ship flight on Sully's last mission, a chaff-drop directly over Hanoi, a dispensation that required slow-speed, straight-and-level flying over one of the most heavily defended areas of the war zone. Sully was the squadron commander, and typical of him, took it upon himself to lead that most dangerous mission rather than assign it to his underlings. I kept a journal of those days and here's what I wrote in it about him: "FARRELL J. SULLIVAN—the squadron commander, a leader who led by example, who never expected anyone to do any more or anything that he himself would not do. He flew and led more of the most dangerous missions during the time he was at the helm."

I wore his MIA Bracelet for years!
In 1975, I was a Freshman in High School and my friends and I sent off for MIA bracelets. Mine had the name Lt. Col. Farrell Sullivan on it. I wore it until I graduated from High School. I never knew anything about him until today. As I was watching "Vietnam in HD" on the History Channel today, my mind went back to the man for whom I prayed nightly...Lt. Col. Farrell Sullivan. It occurred to me to google his name and I found pictures of him, his wife, and his lovely children, for whom I had also fervently prayed. I am happy that his wife was able to have his remains back home and I pray they he Rests In Peace.
