# 50 BHS Hometown hero

When I was 8 years old and the water boy for the Briarcliff Bears football team, Jon Shine was my hero.
I wore his football jersey #50 my Frosh - Senior year at BHS and was All State & All American my senior year -so I wore it well (opinion). I think of Jon daily. 'nough said. -- Don O'Hagan

Do not stand at my grave and weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

A gentle man who will always be missed

I was Jon's CO with the 4/9th Inf MANCHUS, 25TH Inf DIV. As a commander you try not to have faverites but, with Jon you couldn't help it. He was loved by his platoon and respected by me. The few times we were in a base camp Jon would stand in line for hours at the MARS station to call his wife wile the rest of us were getting drunk at the club. I will never forget the day he died and will always remember him.
