I was there

On March 2, 1968 I was an aviation ordnanceman in the Missile Shop/GM Division on the ENTERPRISE. Tom was a friend of my brother, Don. Don played trombone to Tom's banjo, and they had flown together in the states.
I went to the squadron office to welcome him aboard, though I was enlisted and he was an officer. I was informed that Tom had gone down the day before. I never got to meet him. It was a somber day for me, all those many years ago.

Upon my return home in 1970, I wore Tom's bracelet for years. Now retired myself and grown old, I still think of him. As long as I live, he will not be forgotten.

Looking for Info

In 1973, my friends & I ordered POW bracelets, we were Sophomores in High School. My bracelet bears the name CDR Thomas Scheurich I had forgotten about it, and just ran upon it this week. Would like info on family living that might be interested in having this bracelet. Thanks for any help and thanks to CDR Thomas Scheurich for his service. My Dad flew 7 missions in a B26 in WWII.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear CDR Thomas Edwin Scheurich, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
