Visited you at The Wall

I was with Jose in the 559th. I loaded bombs, Jose delivered them. We became good friends. I was crushed when he was killed.

Distinguished flying Cross Citation - 31 August 1968

Citation to accompany the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Jose C. Santos

"First Lieutenant Jose C. Santos distinguished himself by heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-4C pilot near Bien Thuy, Republic of Vietnam on 31 August 1968. On that date, Lieutenant Santos participated in a close air support mission in the relief of allied forces engaged by hostile forces. Despite low ceiling, close proximity of friendly troops and heavy hostile automatic weapons fire, Lieutenant Santos attacked the hostile force and broke them out into the open enabling the allied forces to sweep the area. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Santos reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force."

Thank you for your courage, service, and sacrifice Lt. Santos. I am sure there are many men still here today because of what you did on 31 August 1968. You will never be forgotten!

“Dear Lord, lest I continue in my complacent ways, help me to remember that somewhere someone died for me today and if there be war, help me to remember to ask, Am I worth dying for?” – Wartime Prayer of Eleanor Roosevelt

Thank You

Dear Lt Jose Santos, Thank you for your service as a Tactical Aircraft Pilot. Your 53rd anniversary just passed, sad. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is Advent. Time moves quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
