Remembering An American Hero

Dear 1LT Jose Carlos Santos, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Old Friend from USAF Pilot Training at Laughlin AFB

Jose was my best friend in pilot training while we were in Del Rio. I had heard of his being lost while on an F-4 mission, and remember feeing the loss then. Now, these 40+ years later, I still remember.

Remembrance of an Aggie buddy

Jose (we called him Joe at Texas A&M) was the first and only member of his family to graduate from college. He picked a tough major too - Aerospace Engineering. Joe and I looked a lot alike and were often mistaken for one another by underclassmen. Perhaps that's one of the reasons I miss him. Joe's classmates are helping to care for his elderly mother. Joe is missed by his family, many friends, and Aggie buddies. Pat Gibson '65
