My Friend Wayne
Wayne, I was with you that fateful night that you were killed on LZ Siberia. I have thought about you every day since then . It has been 30 years ago and it seems like yesterday. You had just returned from R&R in Hawaii and had visited your wife and small son. You told me that now you were afraid that you would not live to see them again. Within a couple of hours you were gone. How terribly sad. John and I were both wounded that night in the same attack and we grieved for your wife and son. John wanted to contact your widow after he returned to the U.S., but didn't exactly know what to say to her. We looked up to you , Wayne, you were our squad leader and inspiration. You were a real soldier and a true hero. I will never forget you and I love you man.
