for David Lee McMath
David, I was born and raised in Ames, Iowa. I was six-seven months older than you. Class of 1966. During the summer, in the Sixties, we used to drive down on Hyw 1963 through Monroe on our way to Pella/Red Rock Dam. I'd like to think maybe, perhaps we met on one of our stops in Monroe. Or maybe we passed each other at the State Fair in Des Moines or at the Boys and Girls basketball tournaments at Vets in Des Moines. I didn't serve. Uncle Sam said I was "morally unfit" to serve. As an 18-year-old boy, I didn't understand why I needed to be "morally fit" to kill people ie the Viet Cong. David, thank you for your service. May G-d have mercy on your soul and may your memory be a blessing.

Thank You
Dear Lcpl David McMath, Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. I researched you on your 53rd anniversary, sad. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is Labor Day weekend. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear LCPL David Lee McMath, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
