He was my boss

Tommy was my boss in Alpha company and I was most likely the last person to see him alive. I was a Platoon medic and he was the senior aideman in Alpha Co.
We were ambushed at the base of hill 187 in an old, abandoned cemetary, overgrown with jungle vegitation and bisected by a low rock wall. It was very foggy that March 19th morning.
After I was wounded and crawled back to the relative safety of the wall, Tommy came over to check on me and I passed him my morephine. He slipped over the wall and that was the last I ever saw of him.
It was several years before I realized he had been awarded the MH. He had admonished me on several occasions to not take chances and expose yourself to enemy fire and yet that is exactly what he did himself. No one deserves the MH more than Tommy. He was one of the most courageous men I ever knew.
About ten years ago, I made a visit to Lewiston, ME to see Tommy's final resting place. When I asked the caretaker at the cemetary if him could look up Thomas McMahon's gravesite, I thought it would take him a while to find it but he said, "Sure I can show you where Tommy is" and he led me straight to him. I'm glad that the people of Lewiston remember you, Tommy, I know I'll never forget you.

Dear Thomas,

I never had the pleasure to meet you...maybe one day we would have met if your life was not cut short. I am so sorry for your loss, but my heart swells with pride to learn the facts about your life...a heroes story. God Bless you Thomas and may the Lord's arms comfort you and hold you close to his heart!
Love Judy
