Remembering An American Hero

Dear Major Glenn Dewayne McCubbin, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

Thank you. Never Forgotten!

I received Glenn's bracelet while in High School and wore it faithfully until I graduated. It has been treasured in my jewelry box. As I sat here tonight I thought of him - as I often do. I always wondered about him, his family, etc. so for some reason, I googled his name. Why I had never thought to do so before I do not know. So happy he was found and that I know more about who he was. He paid the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you for this website. I will visit the memorial sometime to pay my condolences .

Final Mission of MAJ Glenn D. McCubbin

MAJ Joseph E. Davies and MAJ Glenn D. McCubbin comprised the crew of an F-4D Phantom fighter jet sent on a night mission over North Vietnam. When they failed to rejoin their wingman, another flight in the area was called in to make an electronic search. Official location, according to coordinates given, places their last known location near the city of Ron in North Vietnam. Voice radio contact was established in a location that could not be exactly established, but the families were told the radio transmission was originating from across the border into Laos, some 50 miles from the city of Ron. The voice could not be identified, but when search and rescue was called in, a second transmission was received from about 30 miles southwest (deeper into Laos) of the first contact. Davies and McCubbin were never found. Their radio transmissions proved futile. They would be among the nearly 600 Americans lost in Laos. Their freedom was never realized from the Pathet Lao, and not one man held in Laos was ever released. [Taken from pownetwork.org]

From a friend who got to come back...

This is always a special day as I've worn Maj. Glenn D. McCubbin's bracelet for many years. I always ask my family to remember the sacrifice that Glenn and many others made. Even after Glenn's remains were located and identified, I promised to wear his bracelet in remembrance of that sacrifice. All I asked of him was that he watch over our children and grandchildren and, so far, he's done an outstanding job. I put the bracelet on my Daughter-in-Law, a Navy Reservist, when she was deployed to Somalia and, despite harrowing events, she returned safe and sound. Thank you, Glenn. We pray for you and for your family that also had to sacrifice without you. In October, 2013, my grandson got to visit his Guardian Angel at the Vietnam Memorial.
