Interesting Coincidence

Glenn was a fraternity brother of mine. I was unaware that he was in Viet Nam and/or MIA. After my return from Viet Nam my wife asked my daughter-in-law if she could get her a MIA bracelet. My daughter-in-law sent my wife an Mia bracelet from Alamagordo, N.M. She wore it for nearly a month before I noticed the name on it....Glenn McCubbin!

A Bracelet

When I returned to the States from a fighter assignment in Europe, I was assigned to Reese AFB in Texas. Glen was my first student pilot. From the very beginning I knew I had a kid with natural flying ability which would make the teaching experience a pleasure. I took him on cross country flights to San Antonio and Las Vegas, where I can remember great moments. He was more than a student to me. More like a younger brother. I was deeply saddened by the news of his being MIA. On a trip to Washington in 1993 I visited the wall with a friend of mine and pointed out his name and those of many other friends. Leaving the wall I encountered a vendor selling small packets with bios and bracelets of the men whose names are on the wall. I reached into a box containing a literally hundreds of packets and without looking picked one out to see what was for sale. Imagine my suprise when I looked and found Glenn's picture and bracelet in the packet I had selected..I have it among my other momentoes and look at it now and then and remember the good times we shared.
