we will remember

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Final Mission of SP4 Quinten E. Mulleavey

SP4 Quinten E. Mulleavey was an infantryman assigned to C Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade. On April 2, 1968, SP4 Mulleavey was serving as assistant machine gunner with his platoon while they conducted a search and destroy mission five miles southeast of Bong Son City in Binh Dinh Province, RVN. During the operation, Mulleavey's squad was directed to set up an overnight ambush. At 6:15 AM the following morning, April 3, 1968, the squad was ordered to rejoin the platoon. Mulleavey fell in at the rear of the column and commenced the walk back to the platoon site. Approximately 120 yards later, it was noticed that he was missing. The area was searched extensively for several days by the company. A special dog tracking team tracked him down a canyon and found signs that he had been captured after locating scuff marks in the sand where he had been pushed to the ground. No other sign of Mulleavey was discovered. He was placed in the presumptive status of Dead, Body Not Recovered. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org and information at vvmf.org]
