You are with me every day of my life

It has been so many years Oscar, but I can see your face as if you were standing next to me this very moment. You were one of my closest friends in Boot Camp. It was the day after my 19th birthday when you were taken from us, but you have been with me every day. Ron Baldridge and I were with you after they brought you down from the hill. We've been together since. I miss you Oscar: My comrade, my friend, my brother.

Oscar Bell

I still remember your smile and humor. When we lost your M-60 team gunner to Malaria and you became the gunner I knew we could depend on you. You took your job as a serious mature man even though you were only 21. We were all young men that had to grow up mighty quick. That night of hell on the hill on operation Hastings, when your young life was taken from you and the only ones to make it out alive were your best friend and assistant gunner Eckstrom who was wounded next to you, and myself also wounded on the other side of the trail will always remember you and keep your memory alive. You were a good friend and Marine. Semper Fi Oscar.
