Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Lawrence James Merschel, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Remembering You On Veteran's Day

It's been over 45 years since I lost my best friend, Larry Merschel. I think of him often and wonder what it would be like to have him with us today. He had such a passion for life. I hope he's looking down on us and realizes how much his friends and family miss him.

My Best Friend

Not a day goes by that I don't think of 'My Brother In Gold Dust'. He was my best friend, my teammate in both soccer and basketball and my campaign manager when I ran for student govt. We shared our first 'cocktail' together and raised some hell in H.S. I miss him terribly. I go visit him him at The Wall and his grave, next to his Dad, whenever I'm in Phila. My deepest sympathies to his wonderful family.

39 Years

It has been 39 years since my brother Larry died in Vietnam. It still seems not that very long ago, when my family received the tragic news. I still smile when I think of him. So, this being May 1, 2007, I just wanted to say that he is not forgotten.......
