Never forgotten Big Brother!!
Mike, i had your Tigers Eye remade (i believe you bought it in Korea after your first gunshot wound in 1967) i had to have it melted down and added new gold to redo it as the original was too old and thin to refurbish. I added you signature, that the jeweler lifted off your High School picture to our Grams and AA on one side and 1968 and Sgt. Stripes on the other with blue diamonds. On the inside is a football in Rose gold. I wear it only when i leave the house, so it wont get damaged doing daily projects. I receive many complements on it when im out and it allows me to tell the story of your life. Still think of you every day and you have been gone since 1968.

Thank You
Dear Sgt Michael Melvin, Thank you for your service as an Airborne Qualified Radio Teletype Operator. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Yesterday was POW/MIA Recognition Day, and today is the first day of autumn. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Hey my friend and comrade
I'm sorry I didn't get your block and tackle back to you. At the time we were in the same part of the world. Peace brother.

My uncle... I wish we had met.
Uncle Mike,
Today is Memorial Day and my brother Michael (named after you) sent this link to me a couple days ago. I love this site. What an awesome way to honor the people who gave us the freedom to have so much that we all take for granted.
I'm sad to say I never got to meet you. You were my dad's big brother... You were taken so young just a year and a half before I was born. I heard so much about you as a child growing up... My dad always said you were a great athlete... A young man of strength and courage... A force to be reckoned with. Dad looked up to you and loved you and admired you very much. You were only 21 when you died and my dad was only 18... Losing you left a deep scar.. On my dad and your little sister (my aunt) also.. You were the oldest... My dad said you went back for a second time to Vietnam.and died there.. Friendly fire he was told...I guess you were born to be a soldier.. So strong and brave... And words cannot do justice to tell you how grateful I am to you for your sacrifice...I am so sad I didn't get a chance to meet you.I want you to know I tell my kids about you. Please know that you are missed and you were loved.
Your niece,
Dawn
