Thank you, Dick
My mother (Judy Bridges) knew Dick from grammar school through high school graduation. She always spoke very fondly of him. Another good friend of mine, Rick Markley, also knew Dick from school. Rick told me that Dick came home on leave and the two of them got together with some other friends and painted Mansfield red!! I've never heard a bad word about Dick from anyone who knew him. Rest in Peace, Dick. We still remember.

A true American hero
I had the privilege of being BM3 Baumberger's Division Officer aboard the USS Southerland (DD-743) between his 2 swift boat tours. He was one of the most squared away and memorable sailors I knew in my entire Naval career. He could have had a couple of years of shipboard duty with good meals and a warm, dry bunk every night, but he was totally committed to helping the Vietnamese people. Therefore, soon after reporting to Southerland, he requested and was granted another tour with the swift boats, cutting short his shipboard tour. The story of his last day tells you everything about what an extraordinary person he was.
