Bruce...for those five long years in the coma did you relive your sweetest memories and darkest days before the long, painful goodbye? I hope you knew that you were and are always remembered and loved.

Dear Sp4 Fredric Davis,
Thank you for your service as an Airborne Qualified Infantryman. Your 71st birthday is soon, happy birthday. We are celebrating Passover and Easter. It is a time of joy, and may that be yours in heaven. It is so important for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

SP4 Fredric B. Davis was an Army paratrooper with A Company, 1st Battalion, 505th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. He was severely wounded in action by rocket fire during a battle in the vicinity of Hue on March 26, 1968, where he lapsed into a coma. He remained comatose for nearly six years until his death at age 25 on January 14, 1973, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto, CA. His injuries from 1968 were the second time he had been wounded. In July of 1965, he was hit by shrapnel which required hospitalization in Japan, followed by a period of stateside duty. He later returned to Vietnam when he was injured a second time, suffering a concussion and fragmentation wounds all over his body. Shrapnel entered his lungs and the bleeding blocked his breath canal, causing unconsciousness from which he never recovered.
