Final Mission of SP4 Fredric B. Davis

SP4 Fredric B. Davis was an Army paratrooper with A Company, 1st Battalion, 505th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. He was wounded in action by rocket fire during a battle in the vicinity of Hue on March 26, 1968, where he lapsed into a coma. He remained comatose for nearly six years until his death at age 25 on January 14, 1973, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto, CA. His injuries from 1968 were the second time he had been wounded. In July of 1965, he was hit by shrapnel which required hospitalization in Japan, followed by a period of stateside duty. He later returned to Vietnam when he was injured a second time, suffering a concussion and fragmentation wounds all over his body. Shrapnel entered his lungs and the bleeding blocked his breath canal, causing unconsciousness from which he never recovered. Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 Fredric Bruce Davis, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
