Welcome home CPT Kennedy

I was serving with MACV in Quang Tin and I remember when we got the word that he had stopped responding to radio calls. I have always wondered what happened to him. I am glad for his family and friends that he finally came home.

Silver braclet of 1LT.John W Kennedy 08-16-71

In 1973 when I was just 14 a young girl I received Mr John Kennedys' silver MIA/POW bracelet, I never took it off my wrist until 1977 when I had my first child and I was forced to by the Dr. This again happened in 1978 with the birth of my son. I use to pray everynight that he was safe, what he looked like and his family. Afterwards I wore this again until 1981 and I divorced. All these years I wondered where my bracelet was and thought often of John Kennedy through the years. My ex and myself have always remained good friends through the years and in May of 2007 he came across a box that he kept some of our past in. He called me up and said I have something of yours that you will love to have as I know how you felt about it back when. When he showed me the bracelet I got weak at the knees, I was so excited and have not taken it off since, still wondering. As of today 12-26-07 while at work I showed our IT guy my bracelet during conversation and he went on the internet and found my Mr John W Kennedy MIA of 08-16-71. I was so very overwrought to know that he had indeed been in a crash and passed away. I have read all the rememberances for him and the press statement of his mother in 1993. She had his bracelet also. I am sorry to the depths of my soul for your loss. I know there was an older brother by the name of Daniel and if you would like to have the bracelet of your brother I would proudly give it to you after all these years. Again I am so heartfelt sorry for the loss of such a wonderful young human being that paid the ultimate price for all of our freedoms..I wish I could have known him as I have always felt he was a part of my life

On Silver Wings

On Silver Wings
They Flew The Skies
These Brave Young Men
Who Fought And Died
When Duty Called
They Went So Brave
Now Families Mourn
Beside Their Grave
Who Can Forget
What Courage They Had
Some Have,Some Did
And That's So Sad

I am glad you finally found your way home

I met Captain Kennedy at the Chulai Airbase, RVN in the summer of '71. I worked in the weather office at chulai and gave the captain weather briefings. He was a true military professional in every sense of the word, and a real gentlemen. I was an enlisted man, at the time and became good friends with the captain. He was a very friendly guy to officers and enlisted men alike. I was on duty the day he disappeared. He came in for a morning weather briefing, which was done by one of our other weather officers, and as he went out the door that day, I said to him, "watch out for those clouds with rocks in 'em", which was kind of our way of cheering him on. And then he flew out of our life forever. Later in the day, flight operations in DaNang called and asked if we had heard from him and none of us had. We had a small army issue portable radio that we used for some of the pilots to call us directly for weather information, but he hadn't called in on that all day. I stayed by the radio until the next morning hoping to hear from him, but never did. America lost one of its finest that day. Rest in peace my friend. I am glad you finally made it home.
