We hardly had a moment...

We had been friends since 5th grade. I left school to join the Marines in my junior year. You found me at the dance at Plymouth-Whitemarsh while I was home on leave and told me you were thinking of joining. I wished you well. Months later you picked me up as I was hitchhiking thru Dogpatch outside of Danang and gave me a ride back to my base at Marble Mountain. We laughed and carried on and I promised to come out to your area on my next day off and tried, but there was a search & destroy under way and I got turned back. It was weeks later I saw the Norristown Times Hearld and learned you had been killed. I have always wanted to come to your grave site, Mike, but haven't yet. I have the CD of your NPR tapes and I listen to them often, especially on every Memorial Day. I will never forget you, Mike.

honoring you...

Thank you for your service to our country so long ago sir. The remembrance from childhood friend Karl Lutz is poignant. As long as you are remembered you will remain in our hearts forever.

Remembering

I met Mike when I was about 9 years old before he joined the Marines. He was a friend of my parents. He used to tell me he was from the planet Katia and described to me in great detail of what it was like there and all the wonderous things to see. I was so facinated with him and his tales. He was a hero to me then and to me now that he is gone......maybe back to Katia.
