After 56 years, I still miss you
Hard to believe it has been over 56 years since Jerry and I dropped you off at Ft. Dix before you shipped out to Nam. It was our last Thanksgiving together with your wonderful family. I had just turned 18 and you were the love of my life. I think of you often, and wonder what would have been for us. Life goes on, but memories keeps you in my heart. Will try to contact Jerry, Freddie, etc, to see who is still with us. You have a wonderful and loving family. My husband, Stan, suggested I purchase a brick in your name to place in our community Veterans Plaza. During my research about you, I found this great website. So happy I found you, Richie! You were my first love
Our relationship was short, a little less than a year, but one I will always cherish. It has been over 46 years since you returned home, but I think of you so often. I married, no children, and retired to Deland, Florida. Reading the this site has brought me comfort. My community has a beautiful Veterans Plaza, for which I am purchasing a brick in your honor, along with my husband, and two brothers. You will always be my "Richie Love".

Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Richard Barnes (barnsey)
I was with Barnsey when He died, He was my dear friend and an exceptional soldier. I think of him and James Mize, who was killed at the same time, almost daily. Rest in peace my brothers.
