Ground Casualty
SSG John D. Hoffman was a Radio Teletype Operator (Instructor) serving with the 3rd Radio Research Unit, Army Security Group Vietnam. Radio Research Units operated in Vietnam under the direction of the U.S. Army Security Agency and conducted classified missions. Their work included intercepting Morse code and voice communications of the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army, then forwarding the captured intelligence to division commanders in pursuit of their tactical war-fighting operations. On April 2, 1966, while serving in Vietnam, Hoffman was reportedly hit in the chest by a round from a friendly pistol accidently discharged by another individual. He was fatally injured in the incident. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

Memorial Remembrance
John Daniel Hoffman, loving son, brother, husband; defender of democracy; American Super Hero to his sons and granddaughter; a protecting Angel who continues to watch over his family from his seat in heaven. Sorrow and celebration are sisters in our hearts as your time on earth is commemorated and cherished for eternity. Our names disappear with our passing while the memory of your name and heroic deeds will never fade but will inspire and burn in the hearts of others until the end of time.
