"The Brotherhood"
As youngsters .. John Hoffman and I attended Lawndale Elementary School in Northeast Philly. Although our paths never crossed again after elementary school .. I was deeply saddened to hear that John did not make it home to Pennsylvania .. safe and sound. I only learned about John's passing this week. My personal tribute is in honor of John's memory .. and dedicated to his family, friends and U.S. Army buddies.

Hoffman’s military career spanned 10 years. He specialized in communications monitoring and code interception. The 28-year-old staff sergeant served in Germany from 1959 to 1962, and was sent to Vietnam in 1965. He was assigned to the 7th Replacement Company when he was killed on April 2, 1966, in the accidental discharge of a pistol. He had attended Frankford High School. Survivors included his wife, two sons, his mother, two brothers and a sister.
