THE WALL OF FACES

A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
And for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world
But then it flies again
And though we wish it could have stayed...
We feel lucky to have seen it.

Corporal Jeffrey Kay Hoagland was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, with Combat Distinguishing Device (V), for his exemplary gallantry in action. He served as a Rifleman and was assigned to A CO, 1ST BN, 7TH MARINES, 1ST MARDIV.

Dear Cpl Jeffrey Hoagland, Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Today is the last day of spring. Rest in peace with the angels.

My name is Andy Howell & I lived in the same complex with Jeff's brothers Greg & was schoolmate to Skippy. Skippy, Dave & myself were playing basketball one evening when two Marines came up & asked for a particular building. After we showed them where to go Skippy said "Hey! That's My Building!" & went off to see what was up. Sure nuff they were there about Jeff.
Greg couldn't wait to get outta school to join the Marines. I moved to Mississippi right after the funeral & lost touch with Greg & Skippy.
