I knew Everett and took the call informing our unit, 2nd Battalion, 319th Artillery, that he had just been killed when his helicopter was shot down.

If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfor tother hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.

CPT Herren was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 319th Artillery, 101st Airborne Division. He was killed in action while serving as the Artillery Liaison Officer (LNO) to the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry.

Everett is buried atCrown Hill Cemetery, Albany, GA.
