Thank you for your service

Your memorial at Orchard Park stadium under the flag is a place I visit often it is peaceful there . Young students are carefree , happy and playing sports . Because of your service they are free and safe to do so. Thank you PVT Henning .

Douglas Henning remembered by his fellow soldiers

The military picture of Douglas Henning in his field uniform came from the book MY GIFT TO YOU, which includes the stories and pictures of American soldiers who died in Vietnam while serving with the 3rd Battalion, 506th Infantry (the Currahees), 101st Airborne Division. The pictures were allowed for use for the Faces Never Forgotten project by the author and fellow Currahee soldier Jerald "Jerry" Berry.

50 years since HS graduation

Doug,
This weekend is our "50 year reunion celebration" since H S graduation. Last night was a party at the OPCC and we had a good group. Susan & I visited you and Gary. I carried you with me for some of the gang to hold - Susan, Duffy, Carrow, Rappl, Sheehan. The day will come and we will cross over to be with you again. You will forever be loved.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PVT Douglas Allen Henning, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Doug & Gary visit

Doug my friend.

Stopped by yesterday to visit you and Gary. When I visit in the spring, I'll give your marker and Gary's a good cleaning in prep for Memorial day. When I visit, I can lay down and reach out and touch both of your markers. I'm sure the caretakers at Woodlawn think I'm a wacko. I'm getting by but part of me just stopped when the two of you were taken. I look forward to it starting up again but I know it will take my crossing over. When you call me, I'll be ready. I miss you men terribly. I relate our stories, I tell my sons, but few understand the depth & meaning of my loss. You have a fresh blanket of snow this morning. I'll stay close.

Forever with you,

Ross
