Dear Wendell, Your family knew you as Shorty; your comrades knew you as Grenade Grizzle. As a combat vet myself, I honor your bravery and death. Every time I ride my motorcycle to remember or bury a veteran or ride up to Tahoma National Cemetery, I think of you. You were taken at the beginning of your life, and I pray that those of us remaining, live better lives because of your sacrifice. Semper Fi - Always Faithful - Marine!

We sat next to each other in one more classrooms at Lubbock High School. As I recall, you joined the Marine Corps at 17 yoa. I was saddened to hear of your KIA status 50+ years ago. It is an honor to have known you. I found your name on the wall many years ago; and, lamented the loss of so many RIH You have to be in heaven because you served your time in hell.
