A Cousin I Hardly Knew

Johnny,

I was your "little cousin" and we didn't see much of each other, but I remember you and your laugh. I'm so thankful to have found this remembrance. Your family loves and thinks of you often. I know you're in a better place. Keep smiling.

A Hero Has Fallen-Thirty Two Years Ago Today

Johnny,

Not a year goes by without me recalling our friendship and what price you paid for our Country. Johnny, speaking for all of those that still remember, you are still our Hero!

Usually, I pass by the place that you are laid to rest, and never do I fail to give you the salute you rightfully deserve!

Your Buddy,

LArry

A real American Hero and a great Cowboy and friend

Johnny, I didn't get word of your returning to Houston to see your dad pass away and I didn't even know you had left Germany and gone on to Nam. I thought that my advise of staying put in Germany had worked. That Sunday I read about your being killed in Nam is still etched in my memory as if it had only been yesterday. That afternoon I went to visit your family and to my disbelief found out about your father's death. What a shock of losing two of the people I considered to be my family even though we only knew one another for such a short time.

I never will forget the moon and 42 games we played at your place and the few beers your dad would spring for. He was a great man and his apple of his eye was you. I hope you knew that, in time.

Johnny, I attended your memorial and all the while wondered why, why did you leave safe haven for Nam? I told you to avoid going there if you could and at the time it seemed to me that you could have!

What I didn't know is what it must have felt like to be in safe haven when your buddies were being put to the extreme sacrifices. Johnny, now I know and as I learn a little about your demise, I understand that your purpose in this life was to save a few of your buddies lives at the risk of yours. You did, but live on in the memory of many, I'm sure. You will always be in mine.

If you knew Johnny, please e-mail!
