Remembering a Classmate

I am a 1964 graduate of Grace M. Davis High School in Modesto Ca. The years have gone by and we recently had a 50th reunion. Prior to the reunion a Facebook page was set up and we have been able to communicate with one another. I sat next to Bobby in a typing class and was always struck by his youthful look (or what we call "baby face). I remember the day I saw the Bee article on Bobby as being the first Vietnam casualty from Modesto. It saddened me to think of that innocent young man; however through the years I had forgotten his name. Yesterday his name was revealed to me though the school friends and I found him here. So good to know he had married and a child. Thank you for your service, Bobby. I'll not forget your name again.

Basic & AIT

Bob and I rented a place in Kileen during AIT. Our wives lived there and Bob and I visited when we were allowed. After AIT I left for OCS and eventually Vietnam I knew that Bob had worked to stay at Fort Hood since his wife was pregnant. It was over a year later that I learned that my good friend...who taught me my first Spanish had died. It is to me the saddest remembrance of Vietnam, I hope his wife and daughter got through it and had good lives.
