To honor my beloved Father Sgt. Robert Austin "Bobby"

My name is Melissa J Austin "Missy" I am so very proud to be the daughter of Bobby Austin. He died in action on the battle fields of Vietnam Nov, 16th 1967. The only memories I have are those that have been shared with me from family and friends of his who knew and loved my Daddy. I was only a year old when he passed away. So if any of his fellow soldiers who knew him and served with him State side or in Vietnam, and would be kind enough to share their memories with me, I would be so very thankful.
I am 47 Married with two children. I named my first born who is now 25 after my beloved Father. I still miss him everyday. [email protected]

My best friend

I was in basic and AIT training at Fort Hood, Tx. with Bobby, we were the best of friends. We were all sent to Germany after our training but since Bobby had his wife living off post and she was pregnant he was permitted to stay. He was later sent to Vietnam. His wife wrote me a letter while I was in Germany telling me about his death. I lost touch but I have never forgotten him. If anyone can help me get in touch with his son or his wife which I'm sure remarried I would appreciate it. [email protected] Thank you

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SGT Robert Austin, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
