Final Mission of LTC Everett E. Foster
On July 20, 1967, a UC-123B (tail number 54-0630) from 12th Air Commando Squadron was lost while conducting a Ranch Hand defoliation mission near Gia Vuc, 30 miles southwest of Quang Ngai in Kontum Province, RVN. The aircraft was making a spray run at 150 feet when it was hit by a hail of small arms fire, crashed, and burned. All five crewmen were killed. They included pilot MAJ Allan J. Stearns, co-pilot LTC Everett E. Foster, navigator MAJ Donald T. Steinbrunner, loadmaster SSGT Irvin G. Weyandt, and observer SGT Le Tan Bo, RVN Air Force. Remembering An American Hero
Dear LTC Everett Edward Foster, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
