Young Friend
Carey, I remember you as a friend when we were ages 4,5, and 6. We would play together with our friend, Wade Marbaugh. I moved after first grade, and lost touch over the years. You died on January 23, 1970. I did not know. I was drafted, and entered the Army on my birthday on September 24, 1970. I was grateful that I was not stationed in Viet Nam, and to have survived my service. Still, I did not know of your death there, and only learned of it recently. I remember you as a good and true friend, and I continue to feel sadness for your death. Thank you for your friendship, and thank you for your service and your ultimate sacrifice.
Your friend, Bob

Best Buddies
Carey: Where to begin! After first meeting at the 4th Repo, we became best buddies and shared many conversations over the next few months. We talked about the obvious things 20 year olds talk about, cars, women, sports, family, stupid things we did growing up. But also, we talked about what we wanted to do when we got out of Vietnam: what we wanted to do for a career, families we would raise, and good times we would have. I got to do those things, but tragically, you were killed and did not get to live the life you should have had the opportunity to pursue. You left behind a young wife and combat buddies that will never forget you.
We also met other great guys when we joined the “Third Herd”; with you, Mike Green, and me becoming the “Three Musketeers”. Though I kept my commitment to you to visit your family, I have not kept up with others from “The Herd”. Like many of other Vietnam Vets, I put that experience in a box in my mind and locked it away because it was very unpopular to be a Vietnam Vet. Now I have contact with Dave Barker (Chicken Man) and Steve Johnson, and gotten to see pictures of a “Herd” reunion some years back, and would love to hear from Mike Green (Gronk). Mike, if you are out there: [email protected] . After 45 years, Dave has shown me that it has been long enough to open the box a little though the names Carey Fosnaugh, Jack Deeter, and Chuck (Ronald) Olson were ever present. Within members of the “Third Herd”, Carey Fosnaugh, Jack and Chuck still live! Bob Blackwell, 4th Infantry Div, 2/35, Co A, 3rd Platoon

Gone Too Soon
Carey you were like my big brother and not just my cousin. We grew up together. You were taken from us too soon.
