Thank you DJ for your very touching remembrance of our friend Carey. It really tore me up reading it this Veteran's Day, as it does any time I think of him. I had just gotten a job in the base camp when he was killed and always felt like he got my bullet. After over half a century now, I know I will never get over it.
Sorry I haven't stayed in touch with the Third Herd. You were a wonderful person, Carey. No wonder we all still remember you.

Dear Great uncle Carey I am sorry that I never got to meet you and your dad my great grandpa I am sorry you never got a life with your family because I learned history because my great grandpa your dad who was in WW2 I wish we could talk together and I could hug you now I miss you my Great uncle please forgive me for not helping you.
