Vic Ford and the Pogey Bait Truck

I met Vic on a flight from San Diego, he and another Recon Marine, Whitey, as I recall. Summer '65, back to Atlanta, then to Benning for Jump School. Vic Ford (as he called himself) was a funny guy. We were standing in formation one evening and a pogey bait truck pulled up...Vic, turned to us and said...in the Army, you get pogey bait trucks????? And with his smile, made us all laugh. Go easy bro...still a memory after 53 years.

I am doing a GoRuck Event in Virginia Beach today. We all have selected 1 Soldier to honor and say a little something about at the event. I have chosen you and it is an honor and a privilege to learn a little what I have about you, you are not forgotten Sir.

Always Remembered

VJ, We had some great times together with 1/1. I was very surprised when you volunteered for Recon & only found out after one of the guys washed out. I know that you still funny even guarding the gates to heaven. RIP Marine, you are missed ever after 50 years.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL Victor James Ford, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
