Send canned fruit . . .

Per article in Santa Rosa Press Democrat (3/16/86) -

On the eve of a battle near Khe Sanh Flannery wrote a note home on a c-ration card. "Lot of air strikes on objective -- bombing, rockets, napalm by Phantom and Crusader jets. Send canned fruit, pears, peaches, anything -- writing gear."

The card was postmarked the day following his death.

Thank You

Dear PFC Robert Flannery,
Thank you for your service as a Machine Gunner. Your 71st birthday is soon. Happy Birthday. It has been too long, and it's about time for us all to acknowledge the sacrifices of those like you who answered our nation's call. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness. Rest in peace with the angels.

Checking in

Here we are again. I have lost track of your family, and for that I apologize. The boys and I stopped by after the Memorial Day ceremony- all looked well. My sons are old enough to understand some things so I tell them what I know about you and your family.

Checkin in

You are not forgotten. Many years have passed since my last posting, but that does not reflect my thoughts of you. The boys are growing up and are working their way through high school.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Robert Edward Flannery Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
